The Supercar Life Racing team is set to take on the challenging Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course during tomorrow's EMCO Gears Classic.
Sporadic rain made for difficult field conditions during this afternoon's qualifying session; only 12 laps were completed. Within striking distance of a Top 10 finish early on, Supercar Life Racing team principal Scott Tucker posted a time of 01:23.026 and hit an average speed of nearly 98mph. It was an impressive performance considering the conditions: Tucker's time was just on the heels of last year's fastest qualifying time (01:20.00). The No. 55 BMW-Riley Daytona Prototype will start from the eighth row in tomorrow's race, near the middle of the 32-car field.
Prior to the qualifying round, the team turned in practice session times of 01:21.221, 01:19.526 and 01:26.119-all within the Top 10 on the official time charts. Between sessions, the crew made a few minor adjustments to the No. 55 to ensure a strong finishing position for Saturday's race.
"We worked carefully with the crew in practice and put together a good setup for the No. 55's qualifying run," Tucker said. "Although we would have liked to qualify higher, the car is fine-tuned and should be able to move quickly through the field once the green flag drops. This team has the talent and the skills to be able to be a leading contender in the race; we proved that two weeks ago at Watkins Glen, and we will prove it again tomorrow."
Just back from France after competing in the 77th running of the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans, co-driver Christophe Bouchut is primed for a successful race. Bouchut teamed with Manuel Rodrigues and Yvan Lebon drove the No. 99 Ferrari GT2 for JMB Stradale Racing at Le Mans, finishing in eighth.
"This year's 24 Hours of Le Mans was incredible," Bouchut said. "The best yet. I hope to continue that momentum as we head into this weekend. Our fourth Top-10 finish at Watkins Glen only proved that the best is yet to come; the Supercar Life Racing team has its sights on a podium finish-and soon."
Taking a quick break from final adjustments to the No. 55 DP, Team Manager David Stone lauded his drivers and crew: "We have already accomplished so much this season-setting new track records and finishing in the Top 10 for every race. Both Scott and Christophe have the ability to do what it takes to get this team to the top of the Series standings; I look forward to watching them race tomorrow."
The green flag will drop for the EMCO Gears Classic at 5:00 p.m. EST; the race will be televised live on SPEED TV.
