It's not unusual for boy to get a new bike for his eighth birthday. But Dustin Renteria is not your typical 8-year-old and he does not ride your typical bike. The Level 5 Motorsports-sponsored rider celebrated his birthday with a victory Friday night in the 65cc 5-8 open class in a California Motorcycle Association event in Madera, California.
The Hollister, California, youth is one of only five motorcycle riders and go-kart drivers sponsored by Level 5 Motorsports in 2010. So far this season, he has been on quite a roll.
During the weekend, Renteria also finished second in the 65cc X-class and third in the 50cc 7-8 open class. He remained in first place in the season standings in both 65cc classes. He's second in the standings in the 50cc class by only three points. The triumph is the third in three races for Renteria this season in the 65cc 5-8 open class during the CMA's Spring Series. He also posted victories on April 30 and May 7.
"Dustin has pretty much owned the 5-8 65cc class this year," said Renteria's father, Dusty. "And, he's only going to get better. The 50cc 7-8 class had 16 motorcycles participating, and Dustin is still at a slight disadvantage to some of the older kids in that class. He's sure to win some races before the season is over, but there is some pretty serious competition in this series. With podium finishes in all three classes, it was a great weekend for him and our family."
"We could not be more proud of Dustin," Level 5 Motorsports owner / driver Scott Tucker said. "He's really doing a great job on the track and he's a great kid off the track as well."
And, in case the winner's trophies were not enough, one of Renteria's birthday presents was a new KTM bike.
Renteria and his father, Dusty, plan to attend the American LeMans Series race as spectators this Saturday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, where owner / driver Scott Tucker and the Level 5 Motorsports team will participate in the ALMS six-hour endurance event.
"We can't wait to have a chance to watch Scott race this weekend at Laguna Seca," Dusty Renteria said. "We appreciate all he has done for us. The least we can do is go and cheer him on to victory in the American LeMans Series. It should be a lot of fun."
Television coverage of the American LeMans Series event from Laguna Seca will be shown May 29, 2010, 1:30 p.m. ET.
