The Boardwalk Ferrari Supercar Life Racing team continued to their quest for success in the sixth round of the 2009 Ferrari Challenge Series at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Scott Tucker and his No. 55 F430 machine clinched front row position on the grid in this morning's qualifying session. His lap time of 01:24.662 around the 2.25-mile road course was .24 seconds faster than Ferrari of Silicon Valley's Zak Brown, who qualified second (01:24.902). Tucker took a smart approach to the session. His first lap around the track was slow, allowing him to test his new brake pads. He then waited for a clear track giving him the opportunity to rip a flyer.
"This weekend has been incredible," Tucker said. "Today's session was very close. With each qualifying run, you have one single shot at the pole-and that's an exciting feeling as a driver. This team is definitely in a great position to make the most of the start and get out of the first corner ahead of the field. After yesterday's race, we will look to take first in this afternoon's event and gain the lead in the standings. This team deserves so much."
It was a classic battle in Saturday's race 11. Tucker captured a solid second, finishing .421 seconds behind winner Ferrari of Houston's Mark McKenzie, the current Series poins leader. McKenzie will start third (01:24.923) on the grid in this afternoon's race--this will give Tucker the chance he needs in order to take over first in the points standings.
Team Manager David Stone is looking to capitalize on this weekend's race events.
"Scott drove excellent laps, aggressive yet controlled, in yesterday's race," he said. "Overall, we are very pleased with our performances this weekend and will look to finish the weekend in a solid position for the International Finals in Italy. The reality is that anything can happen on race day and you should never underestimate the opposition. Nevertheless, we look forward to a great race today, and we expect to be able to play a highly competitive part in it."
Following Tucker, Brown and McKenzie on the grid were drivers Ferrari of Silicon Valley's Henri Richard (01:25.375) and newcome Enzo Potolicchio (01:25.382) taking fourth and fifth positions.
Race 12 begins today at 11:45 a.m. EST.
