The Supercar Life Racing team powered their No. 55 Supercar Life BMW-Riley Daytona Prototype to a Top 10 finish in today's qualifying session for the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen. The race, which runs Saturday at Watkins Glen International, is the fifth round of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series season.
Driving the No. 55 DP to the No. 10 spot, Supercar Life Racing driver Christophe Bouchut clocked in a fastest qualifying time of 01:42.488 (119.428 mph). Bouchut's time eclipsed the previous track record of 1:42.888, set last year by Max Angelelli of SunTrust Racing-an incredible performance for the ace's first time racing a DP at Watkins Glen. The team will start in the fifth row on the starting grid for Saturday's race.
"The Supercar Life Racing crew has been extremely busy preparing a great car for us this weekend," Bouchut said. "This is a fast track, and in a six-hour race you have to sustain momentum in order to finish strong. After today's qualifying run, we feel really good about the car and are ready to get out there and chase down our top Series competitors."
Bouchut's enthusiasm is warranted. The team turned in competitive practice times-01:44.761 in practice one and 01:43.893 in practice two-and the No. 55 qualified just 1.7 seconds behind pole winner Scott Pruett of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (01:40.744).
"We are getting faster and better as a team with every lap," Team Principal and co-driver Scott Tucker said. "We have a small, tight group of guys that are keeping this car in good shape; Christophe and I can't thank them enough. Because of their hard work, we have seen great success track after track."
"We watched the car closely during today's qualifying run, and we will continue to make minor adjustments to ensure a strong race tomorrow," Team Manager David Stone said. "Starting in the Top 10 tomorrow puts us in position for a great run."
Fans of the Series will see plenty of action on Saturday. In addition to the Rolex Series' GTs and DPs, competitors from the NASCAR Camping World Series are set to join the weekend's race festivities. The Six Hours of the Glen race will be televised live on SPEED TV starting at 2:00 p.m. EST.
