The Supercar Life Racing team heads to Ohio Father's Day weekend to compete in the Grand-Am Rolex Series' EMCO Gears Classic Saturday, June 20, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington.
It has only been a week since the team put on an exciting show for fans during the 28th running of the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International. Leading their first Rolex race of the season for five laps during co-driver Christophe Bouchut's first-ever Daytona Prototype race, Supercar Life Racing finished in seventh position, securing their fourth Top-10 finish of the 2009 Rolex season.
"This team reached a whole new level last race," team principal Scott Tucker said. "Running in first early in a six-hour race is an incredible accomplishment after having started in the fifth row of the grid. The No. 55 exceeded our expectations once again, and Christophe drove like the master he is. I am truly fortunate to be a part of this organization."
Weighing in from France, where he is currently participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Bouchut agreed. He was behind the wheel when the No. 55 BMW-Riley DP overtook first position. "That was a spectacular moment for the Supercar Life Racing team. I could hear our entire crew cheering the No. 55 on through my headset. This car is going to see a podium finish in the very near future, and I can't wait for that moment."
The upcoming weekend's EMCO Gears Classic offers the team their next chance at the podium. With its 2.258-mile course and 12-turn configuration, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is one of the most challenging race circuits in the United States and promises an action-packed weekend for Rolex drivers and fans.
"This track has a lot of technical sections," Team Manager David Stone said. "The front straight will allow the drivers to pick up a lot of time in between turn points. As Scott and Christophe run this course next Saturday, it is essential that they both pay close attention to Mid-Ohio's extraordinary technicalities."
Fortunately for the team, their experience with intense endurance races has honed their concentration and strategy, priming the No. 55 for a strong performance in next Saturday's 2.75-hour race.
"We have worked so hard this season, and the No. 55 continues to impress us every time we hit the track," Tucker said. "To be on top of that podium would mean the world to this team and me. It would complete a great Father's Day weekend. I can't thank my daughters and wife enough for all of their support. Sharing the racing experience with them is truly special."
