Level 5 Motorsports Shows Prowess During Roar Before the Rolex 24

The Roar Before the Rolex turned out to be a huge confidence builder for Level 5 Motorsports and its two entries for this month's Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Co-piloted by team owner/driver Scott Tucker, the No. 55 BMW Riley and the No. 95 BMW Riley finished 2-3 in the final test session Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. The No. 55, with Tucker, Christophe Bouchut, Luis Diaz and Mark Wilkins behind the wheel, turned a fast lap of 127.533 mph, only a half-second behind the No. 8 Starworks Motorsports Ford Riley.

The No. 95, with Tucker, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Raphael Matos and Richard Westbrook driving, turned a fast lap of 127.465 mph, less than one-tenth-of-a-second behind the No. 55 BMW Riley.

Adjusting to some new rule changes for 2011 and the newly paved track at DIS, the Level 5 team shined during the three-day test session for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. The Level 5 Motorsports team scored a spectacular third-place finish in the 2010 Rolex 24 At Daytona and have big goals for the upcoming race.

"We eased into things in the early sessions and continued to make significant strides until we were just off the top speed by the end of the weekend," Tucker said. "That is the kind of test we were hoping for -- a great effort by everyone involved with the Level 5 team to get us ready for the Rolex 24 At Daytona."

After a conservative start in the early sessions, the No. 95 jumped to fifth on the speed chart Saturday in the fourth test session with a fast lap of 125.898 mph. The No. 55 BMW Riley jumped all the way to the second position Saturday's sixth session with a fast lap of 126.918 mph.

The green flat is scheduled to wave on the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona Saturday, January 29, at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised live on the SPEED Channel.

In addition to his exploits at Daytona, Tucker also participated in the Sports Car Club of America's Double National event at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida, finishing second on both Saturday and Sunday.
